Our Services
At NWOMC we provide many outpatient evaluations, assessments, and treatments. Our services range from Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry), Electrodiagnostic testing, Physical & Occupational Therapies, return-to-work rehabilitation, psychological services, Biofeedback, and post-offer/pre-employment screenings.
Assessment & Individual Treatment
Medical Evaluation
Depending on the referral request, issues to be addressed, the Physiatrist (doctor specializing in non-surgical assessment of neurologic and musculoskeletal conditions) performs an evaluation and makes recommendations for further diagnostic studies and/or treatment, if indicated.
Our physiatrists can also conduct closing and impairment-rating examinations to determine whether or not the effects of an industrial injury can be considered medically stationary/maximum medical improvement (MMI)/ fixed and stable, and to determine the rating of any permanent impairment associated with the injury according to appropriate state statutes.

Electrodiagnostic Testing (EMG/NCV)
These diagnostic tests are performed and interpreted by a board certified physiatrist. Results can help inform next steps in treatment or clarify a diagnosis.
Attending Physician Services
Patients who are utilizing services under Oregon Worker's Compensation must have an attending provider. Once care is established and formalized, our physiatrists can manage and direct care to treat on-the-job injuries.
Psychological Evaluation and Treatment
In addition to specializing in pain and somatization disorders, our clinical psychologists are trained to assess and diagnose the full spectrum of mood, anxiety, and other psychological disorders. Recommendations regarding treatment may also be offered.
Biofeedback
A certified Biofeedback practitioner can help patients learn self-regulation skills for management of carious conditions, including chronic headache, chronic pain, and anxiety. Guided by the practitioner, patients learn how to control physiological responses to stress through feedback provided by a device that monitors physical functions such as muscle-tension, respiration, and finger-surface temperature.
Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy
Our licensed providers conduct outpatient treatment for individuals with injuries and other conditions requiring rehabilitation for functional improvement. We provide evidence-based interventions with an active focus to help improve function, safety, ease of movement, and daily activity engagement. Worksite ergonomic assessment can also be arranged on an individual basis.
Physical Capacities Evaluation (PCE) & Work Capacities Evaluation (WCE)
Conducted by our Occupational or Physical Therapists, these comprehensive evaluations provide insight into an individual's capacity for different functional activities. A PCE will determine baseline abilities from a general activity standpoint. A WCE will assess an individual's capacities in relation to specific job demands. The results of these evaluations can help referring providers better understand potential limitations, safety concerns, and determine further recommendations for their patients.
Specialty Programs
Work Hardening / Conditioning

Our CARF-Accredited Work Hardening and Work Conditioning Programs are designed to successfully help an individual move forward from initial treatments of an injury and prepare them for a return the workforce with a reduced risk of further injury. Often during recovery from an injury, individuals experience decreases in strength and endurance, difficulty with movement, and lowered confidence in their abilities. Our programs have a highly structured, goal-oriented, and individualized format designed to achieve maximum functional improvement for participants and prepare them for a safer return to the workforce.

Typically, an individual is referred for a Work Hardening / Conditioning evaluation by their attending physician or other care provider treating the on-the-job injury. This evaluation is conducted by a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, and an occupational therapist.

Our programs are led by both physical therapy and occupational therapy staff. Our experienced physical therapy staff works with patients to improve their strength, flexibility, and endurance. Our specially-trained occupational therapy staff implements work-simulations to improve functional strength, safe lifting capacities, and dynamic activity tolerances. A key element to the success of an individual's program is a willingness to fully participate. Our staff is here to guide patients' recovery and improvement safely.

The Work Hardening Program is tailored to individuals with the goal of returning back to their job at injury, or very similar work. This program usually starts with 4 hours of consecutive treatment, five days per week. The lengths of the treatment day, as well as the physical demands of the program, are increased systematically over a period of 2-6 weeks.
The Work Conditioning Program is designed to help prepare an individual for a return to the general workforce. An individual strengthening and conditioning program is implemented to maximize strength, endurance, and tolerance for functional activities to support an individual's capacity for work in general. This program usually starts at 2 to 4 hours per day, up to 5 days per week, for 2-4 weeks.
